NMRTC NE Strengthens Warfighter Readiness Through Command Physical Training
“Fitness is not a requirement, it is a commitment to yourself, your shipmates, and the mission,” said Chief Hospital Corpsman Craig Humes, NMRTC New England’s Command Fitness Leader.
Sailors gathered at Naval Station Newport for a series of group exercises designed to enhance cardiovascular fitness, muscular endurance, and functional strength tailored to the demands of Navy Medicine. The inaugural session, led by command fitness leaders and supported by clinic leadership, emphasized the connection between physical readiness and the ability to support fleet and Marine Corps operations across the region.
The new command PT initiative is part of NMRTC New England’s broader effort to align with Navy-wide readiness standards and foster a culture of wellness in the military medical community. By training together as a unit, Sailors strengthen teamwork and build the physical and mental resilience required to deliver high-quality, expeditionary medical care in challenging environments.
The structured, command-led PT sessions will occur on a recurring basis, allowing participants to track progress, reinforce healthy habits, and ensure they remain prepared to respond when called upon to support operational requirements at sea and ashore.
NMRTC New England provides operational training to healthcare professionals through healthcare delivery to optimize both medical staff and Warfighter and readiness.
